Virginia Whitehead has performed in New York and
Los Angeles. She has won several first place awards
from the International Piano Recording Competition,
sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers'.
As a member of the Juilliard Chorus Ms Whitehead
performed for Jaqueline Kennedy, with Leonard
Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
This performance was for the grand opening of
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The
performance was nationally televised and recorded by
Columbia Records.
As an alumnus of the Juilliard School of Music,
her tutelage was under the direction of Mieczeslav
Munz and Josef Raieff.
As a teacher her goals are, to develop motor
skills, coordination, confidence, and a sense of
accomplishment in the very young. As the students
advance they should experience inspiration,
motivation, sensitivity, expression, artistry, and
culture.
Ms Whitehead's students have won awards from the,
Loyola-Marymount College/ Mozart Competition,
International Piano Recording Competition, American
College of Musicians, Herb Alpert Scholarships,
Ebell Club Scholarships, Glendale-McGaughey
Competition, Southwestern Youth Music Festival,
Young Artist Peninsula Festival and the Southern
California Junior Bach Festival/Complete Works
Competition.
The music schools and colleges to which Virginia
Whitehead's students have been accepted include:
USC, UCLA, Eastman School of Music, New England
Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, Oberlin
Conservatory, Mannes College of Music, Manhattan
School of Music and the Juilliard School of Music.
Ms Whitehead has been teaching privately, in the
Los Feliz/Silver Lake district of Los Angeles, for
over thirty-five years. As a member of the Music
Teachers' Association of California, she was
presented the "Outstanding Service Award" for
serving as the Hollywood Branch president for a
period of seven years. She also serves on the Board
of directors of the Southwestern Youth Music
Festival.
Ms Whitehead teaches beginners (age six and up)
as well as advanced and pedagogical training and
refresher courses for teachers.
