Students enjoy discovering Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary
periods while also choosing a variety of popular pieces from both movies and
radio. Technical training is emphasized, with relaxed arm/wrist motion
encouraged, learning scales, arpeggio, and cadences. Theory, composition, piano
performance and technical training provide the four corners that build a strong
musical foundation in the Mclean Piano
Journey Studio.

Maria Mclean is a degreed and certified teacher with over 20
years experience. From age 12- 18 Maria studied with the acclaimed concert
pianist, Louis Galanffy. She continued her studies at Mary Hardin-Baylor College
in Belton, Texas after receiving scholarship for Applied Piano. Maria receiving
her undergraduate degree. Maria continued studies in Sociology from Texas
Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, and German language from University of
Texas in Austin, Texas. Graduate work through Amberton University in Dallas.
She currently teaches ages 4 to adult, from beginners through advanced
levels, piano performance, theory, improvisation and composition. She is an
active member in the National Piano Teacher’s Guild, Texas Music Teacher’s
Association, Mid Cities MTA, active with Sonata Club, Ensemble Contest, Van
Katwijk by invitation three years, and is the current Chairperson for the Annual
MCMTA Original Composition Contest. She has maintained her status as an Honor
Roll and Guild Certified Teacher with NGPT for over 20 years.
Over the years, her success and abilities as a teacher have been reflected
through her students' many achievements in winning competitions throughout the
state of Texas.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Mclean has written and produced music for solo
piano and piano-orchestra. Her CDs are available for sale and include works
composed by period composers as well as her own compositions and those of her
students.
As a master teacher in piano, Ms. Mclean has sought to establish an
atmosphere reflecting high expectations of her students while still maintaining
a joy and excitement in learning, hoping to create a rewarding journey for all
who join with her in discovering music.
