Rosetree
Piano Studio
Miss Tahnia has been teaching
piano full-time for over 25 years and truly enjoys
helping her students to find joy in their music.
While she has had many award winners and students
preparing for college music degrees in her studio,
she feels that the most important goal is to make
sure that students love music and find
self-expression in playing the piano.
Private lessons are available at her studio for
students from beginning to advanced who range from
age three through senior citizens, using both
traditional reading methods and the Suzuki Piano
Method. While her main focus is classical music, the
students may choose to add other genres such as jazz
or pop. What is included in the lessons?
A well-rounded musical education helps students
define what music means to them. Miss Lund's goal is
to cover all areas of musicianship: performance,
technique, theory, sight-reading, ear-training,
formal analysis, harmony, music history and a
comprehensive study of music literature. Her
teaching includes an ergonomically correct technique
for effortless performance.
Demonstrating her eclectic approach to piano,
graduates from her studio have chosen many different
paths, including classical and jazz performance,
composition, music education, music technology and
pop/rock composition and performance.
Parents appreciate Miss Lund's methods of
inspiration and motivation:
- Students are assigned a wide variety of
music, from classical to modern, jazz and pop.
- The students are given a weekly computer
generated and long goals are set so that the
students feel accomplishment at the piano.
- Trophies are awarded to students who master
set goals within the curriculum.
- The Music Teachers' Association of
California's Certificate of Merit Program
(standardized music skills tests) and the
similar California Association of Professional
Music Teachers’ Evaluations are available to
mid- and upper level students.
- There are regular opportunities for students
to take part in various recitals, evaluations
and competitions given by the MTAC, MTNA, CAPMT,
TVMTA (see below for what the initials mean),
and National Piano Guild. Her students receive
top honors and high evaluation scores in the
many events held by these organizations, as well
as in the Southern California Jr. Bach Festival
and the Inland Empire Piano Festival.
Teacher Education and Qualifications:
Miss Lund received her Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Music at Chapman University and her
Master of Arts Degree (abt) in Piano Pedagogy and
Musicology at CSU San Jose. As an adult, her piano
instructors have included Dr. Georgia Nicklett
(instructor and performing artist from CSU Fresno, a
student of technique specialist, Abby Whiteside),
Laurell Huber of the MTAC Fresno Branch (piano and
organ), Miss Aiko Onishi (Professor and performing
artist at CSU San Jose, a student of Tobias Matthay
and Edwin Fischer) and Fernando Valenti
(harpsichordist/performing artist, student of Jose
Iturbi and Ralph Kirkpatrick, teacher of Igor Kipnes).
Her studies have given her a thorough understanding
of the proper technical approach to the piano to
allow for a beautiful tone without stress to the
body.
An active member of the Music Teachers' Association
of California for over thirty-five years, she is
currently President of the MTAC Temecula Branch. She
has been an Evaluator for the MTAC Certificate of
Merit Program. Miss Lund is also a member of the
National Guild of Piano Teachers, the Music
Teachers' National Association, the California
Association of Professional Music Teachers and the
Temecula Valley Music Teachers' Association. For
