My name is Shayla Swart. I've
been teaching since the age of 16 and have studied under the
Assistant Dean at The University of Colorado at Boulder for 3
years. I'm on a break from college right now and am pursuing
teaching as a full time job. I already have a relatively large
studio but would like to expand. I have no degrees to speak of,
just my 13 years of experience and the love of my instrument.
I believe that learning an instrument is a challenge but should
be fun. I hate to see students held down by the "you must do
this my way" approach to teaching. Each person is different,
therefore the way in which they are taught should be unique to
their personality. I am one of the few young piano teachers out
there. I believe however, that my youth creates enthusiam and an
understanding that is hard to find over the generation gap. I
have studied the Taubman technique and believe that it saved me
from a career ending injury of severe tendonitis. I wait until
my students have a good grasp on the basics before I add in the
principals taught by Taubman. Truly it is a very simple
technique that is wonderful for little hands, to keep them from
suffering from tendonitis brought on by repetitive motion.
I am available 7 days a week to teach. I teach between the hours
of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. I will travel to your home so that you
or your child feel completely at ease with the environment. I
have students in Boulder, Denver, Westminster, Littleton,
Englewood etc. If the area is quite far away I usually request
to be compensated for my mileage. Then again, I consider
anything under 25 miles one way reasonable, and that is most all
of the Denver Metro area for I am lucky enough to be centrally
located. If you would like references, have any questions, or
would like to schedule a free consult please feel free to call
or email me.
