Dr.
Ruslan Sviridov was born on January 18, 1973, in Tambov, Russia.
He began to study music at age 7 with Elena Khvorostova of the
Tambov Music School and gave his first public performance at age
8. While studying at The Tambov Music School, Sviridov won many
school, city and regional contests for young pianists, including
the Tambov Region Annual Contest for Young Pianists (1982-1987).
In 1987, Sviridov entered Rachmaninov Music College in Tambov,
where he studied with Natalia Kolpakova. He received first prize
in numerous city and regional competitions, such as the
Tchaikovsky Regional Piano Contest (1988), the Mussorgsky
Regional Competition for Young Pianists (1989), the Bartok
Regional Contest (1989), the Kabalevsky Regional Competition for
Young Pianists in Kuibyshev (1990), and the Tambov Annual
Contest for Young Pianists (1988-1991). In 1991, he won first
prize in the Regional Contest of Young Pianists in Kuznetsk,
Russia.
While studying at Rachmaninov Music College, Sviridov played
hundreds of concerts throughout Russia’s Central Region: in
Tambov (Tambov Philharmony, Rachmaninov Music College, Tambov
Music School, Tambov Dramatic Theater, Tchicherin Museum, Tambov
State University, Tambov Pedagogical Institute, Tambov
Linguistic Institute, high schools and other locales), Kuibyshev
Philharmony, Smolensk Theater, Ryazan Philharmony, Michurinsk
Philharmony and many other cities. Sviridov was an active member
of the Tambov Music Piano Club (1984-1991) and the Rachmaninov
Museum in Ivanovka, Tambov Region, where he played many
concerts. He made numerous recordings on Tambov Radio and TV
(1982-1995), Russian Central Television (1988-1991), Hungarian
National TV (1988) and Voronezh Regional TV (1988).
After graduating from Tambov Music College with a Diploma of
Honor, Sviridov entered the Moscow State Conservatory, where he
studied with renowned Russian pianist Professor Victor Merzhanov.
While studying at the Conservatory, he played numerous recitals
in Moscow (Moscow State Conservatory - Small and Rachmaninov
Halls, Gagarin Concert Hall, Tchekhov Museum, Revolution State
Museum), Smolensk (Smolensk Theater), Voronezh (Philharmony),
Ufa (State Philharmony), Ulyanovsk (State Philharmony and Music
College), Tambov (Rachmaninov Music College, Tchicherin Museum,
Rachmaninov Museum in Ivanovka, Tambov Music School), and
Saratov (State Conservatory). He played with several symphony
orchestras in Russia, including the Ulyanovsk State Academic
Symphony Orchestra under Professor Georgy Yerzhemsky and the
Moscow Youth Symphony Orchestra under Professor Leonid Nikolaev.
He also participated in the Rachmaninov Music Festival in Tambov
and the Glinka Music Festival in Smolensk, Russia.
While studying at the Moscow State Conservatory, Sviridov took
part in and won many international piano competitions. Among
them were the fourth International Musical Competition in
Tortona, Italy (1994 - Grand Prix and First Prize); the fifth
International "Isabel Scionti" Piano Competition in Kingsville,
Texas (1995 - Third Prize and Special Jury Prize); the fourth
International Musical Competition in Alassio, Italy (1995 -
Grand Prix and First Prize); the 10th International Piano
Competition in San Bartolomeo al Mare, Italy (1995 - First
Prize); the 27th International "Vincenzo Bellini" Piano
Competition in Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy (1996 - Special Jury
Prize); the International Piano Competition in Glasgow,
Scotland, U.K. (1995); the International Piano Competition in
Porto, Portugal (1995); the International Piano Competition in
Borgosessia, Italy (1997); and the Tuesday Musical Club Piano
Competition in San Antonio, Texas (1999). He took part in
International Courses of Piano Artistry dedicated to the memory
of Sergey Rachmaninov in Tambov, Russia (1992), and
International Piano Master Classes with Professor Rudolf
Buchbinder in Zurich, Switzerland (1996 and 1997).
Dr. Sviridov has performed numerous recitals abroad: in Italy
(Milan, Venezia, Voghera, Pavia, Tortona, Genova, Varzi, Alassio,
San Remo, Caltanissetta, Borgosessia), Portugal (Porto),
Switzerland (Zurich), Great Britain (Glasgow), and the United
States (New York, Dallas, Kingsville). He has recorded in Russia
(Moscow State TV and Radio, Tambov State TV and Radio, Voronezh
TV, Smolensk TV and Radio, Bashkirian State TV and Radio in Ufa,
Ulyanovsk TV and Radio), Italy (RAI), Switzerland, Portugal, and
the United States (NBC).
In 1996, Sviridov graduated from Moscow State Conservatory with
a Diploma of Honor and received his Doctoral Degree from Moscow
State Conservatory, where he continued his studies with
Professor Victor Merzhanov. During these years he played
numerous recitals throughout the world.
Dr. Ruslan Sviridov now resides in San Antonio, Texas. He
continues to play recitals and chamber concerts.
