Dr. Deborah Brener has being teaching piano since
1977. Her current studio is based in Coto de Caza,
California. Deborah teaches beginner through
advanced level students of all ages. As a member of
the Music Teacher's Association of California,
California Association of Professional Music
Teachers and Music Teachers National Association,
Deborah is able to place students into prestigious
programs, such as the Certificate of Merit Program,
Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary
Festivals. Students also may participate in the
National Guild, which is held each summer. Deborah holds a Bachelor of Music degree from
California State University at Long Beach, a Masters
of Music degree from California State University at
Fullerton and a PhD. In Musicology from the
Claremont Graduate School, where her dissertation
was A Comparison of Southeast Asian Piano Teaching
Styles. She has studied from noted teachers: Daniel
Pollack, Eduardo Delgado, M'lou Dietzer, Richard
Tetley Kardos and Nina Scolnik. Deborah is trained
in the Taubman Method and teaches her students this
technique.
She has taught at a number of institutions of
higher learning, including Whittier College,
Fullerton College, Golden West College, Santa Ana
College, Coastline Community College and Irvine
College. Besides teaching piano privately she has
taught group piano, music appreciation, music
history, world music and music theory.
She has recently published two books titled
The
World at Your Fingertips, Vol. 1 and 2 through
Alfred Publications. These books feature
multicultural music for piano students, along with
historical and cultural information on the music
from around the world.
Deborah has spoken at many conferences, including
the Music Teacher's Association of California State
Convention, The Music Teacher's National
Association, The National Council on Keyboard
Pedagogy and the Music Association of Community
Colleges.
Deborah continues to study piano and perform.
Among her repertoire contains many ensemble works
for two or more pianists.
