Ronald Allen Cole,
teacher of many award-winning students over
forty years, is a well-known pianist and
teacher throughout the western United
States. Mr. Cole has gained a considerable
reputation as a pianist giving concerts both
as soloist and accompanist with various
orchestras and ensembles. While a student at
the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he
was awarded the "Rice Memorial Award" for
pianists.
Mr. Cole maintains a large
following of piano students and has coached
students in international piano
competitions. He has served as past
president of both the Performing Arts
Society of Contra Costa County and the
Shasta Symphony and was a member of the
Board of Directors of the North State
Symphony. He is currently a member of the
Board of Regents of the North State
Symphony. He is a faculty member of the
National Guild of Piano Teachers and is a
member of the California Music Teachers
Association.
The Ronald Allen Piano Studio is located in
downtown Redding, Ca. Ron offers private and
class piano lessons to students of all ages
and abilities in a number of musical styles:
classical, jazz, blues, latin, and popular.
In addition, private lessons in music theory
are available.
Ronald Cole has a BA in music and a music
credential from California State University,
Hayward. Mr. Cole attended graduate music
studies at UC Berkeley, studying composition
with Joaquin Nin-Culmell. Ron studied piano
with Marcus Gordon at the SF Conservatory of
Music (Mr. Gordon's teacher was the
legendary pianist Josef Lhevinne). Ron's
theory professor at the Conservatory was Sol
Joseph.
Additionally, Mr. Cole attended Master
Classes at Mill's College with John Browning
and Karl Ulrich Schnabel. Other piano
teachers were Julian White, Rudolph Hainke,
and Edelgard Hainke.
In 2004, Mr. Cole's student, Jeremiah
Trujillo, won the junior division of the
North State Symphony Young Artist
Competition, playing the first movement of
the Grieg Concerto.
In 2009, Jeremiah won the 2009 North State
Symphony Music Contest: Collegiate Division
at CSU Chico. He played the first movement
of the Khachaturian Piano Concerto, and
performed the same piece with the full
orchestra in September of that year.
Besides his role as performer and teacher,
Ronald Cole has been active in music
education and therapy. He directed
rehabilitation programs in music for the
California State Penal System at San
Quentin. The radio station KTIM in San
Rafael, the Independent Journal, and the San
Francisco Chronicle, all made dramatic
appeal for donation. The Sherman Clay Co.
donated $13,000 worth of instruments to
these programs. |
