About the Teacher

Peter Svalbe received his Bachelor of Music in Piano from the University of North Texas and his Master of Music from Peabody Conservatory. In 1997, Peter received a Fulbright Scholarship for study at the Academy of Music in Riga, Latvia. Past teachers include Elena Tatulian, Vladimir Viardo, Adam Wodnicki, Teofils Bikis, and Boris Slutsky. Currently, Peter studies with Mary Sauer, principal keyboardist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. During the 2001-2002 season Peter was associate keyboardist with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and performer with LaSalle Bank "Musicorps"- an outreach program that presents free concerts at public schools and parks throughout the Chicago area. Peter has performed solo and chamber programs both nationally and internationally.

Peter teaches students of all ages and skill levels, and lessons are taught from the studio or at the student's home. The teaching repertoire includes classical music as well as jazz, pop, improvisation, and music theory. The studio offers monthly "performance classes". These classes are excellent opportunities for students to learn stage presence, and to perform for their peers to develop a feeling of ease in a performance environment. The setting is informal and fosters a good rapport between students and parents. Students also participate in concerts in the Chicago area and studio recitals are held twice a year.

Peter has eight years of teaching experience and has taught in the Chicago area for over two years. He is a member of Chicago Area Music Teachers Association, Illinois State Music Teachers Association, and Music Teachers National Association. In addition to maintaining a private studio, Peter also teaches for Saint Xavier University and Sherwood Conservatory. For more information and references please call 773/671-7540.
