Bio:
After residing in South Carolina,
Louisiana, and Florida for twelve years,
Nan Baker Richerson
returned to her home state of Kentucky in
the Fall of 2009. Currently, she serves as
Program Director/Piano Faculty at the Music
Institute of Lexington where she teaches
piano to students of all ages and ability
levels. Prior to relocating in Lexington,
Dr. Richerson was a member
of the faculty at the University of South
Carolina School of Music where she taught
applied piano, piano pedagogy, experimental
research in music, and was director of the
Community Music School Piano Division.
Dr. Richerson holds degrees
from Louisiana State University (Ph.D.,
Music Education/Piano Pedagogy; B.M., Piano
Performance) and Florida State University
(M.M., Music Performance/Piano Pedagogy),
and is also a Nationally Certified Teacher
of Music (NCTM) through Music Teachers
National Association. She has presented
research at the national meetings of Music
Teachers National Association, the National
Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and the
Conference of the American Music Therapy
Association. Dr. Richerson
has been a clinician at state MTA
conferences, various local MTA chapters, and
she frequently serves as an adjudicator
throughout the south.
Her research interests are in the areas of
cooperative learning, sight-reading, and
effective instructional strategies in the
group piano classroom. Currently,
Dr. Richerson serves as a member of
the Research Committee for the National
Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy.
Nan Baker Richerson has a
wealth of music teaching experience. In
addition to teaching courses at Louisiana
State University, Florida State University,
and the University of South Carolina, she
also has fifteen years of experience
teaching applied piano and group classes to
students of all ages and levels.
About the Studio:
Dr. Richerson's piano studio is
housed at the Music Institute of Lexington.
Regardless of age or level of ability, all
students are welcome to study piano here!
Piano instruction is available for
beginners, those returning to lessons after
several years, intermediate students, and
advanced students. The curriculum for each
student is tailored to accommodate the
specific needs and goals of the student.
