About the Teacher

I am currently recruiting both piano and percussion students for my studio in the Memorial area. I have 7 years of experience in teaching both piano and percussion lessons. Pedagogical skills developed for my music education degree have both complemented my performance degrees and greatly aided in effectively teaching young people how to play musically. For piano students I am specifically looking for those at the beginning and intermediate levels. Beginning piano students may be as young as 6, but should definitely know how to read. I love to work with students of all ages. Students need to have an acoustic piano at home and actually want to take lessons. In the performing arts, EXPERIENCE is one of the greatest teachers of all. Therefore, all students perform on both winter and spring recitals.

I began my piano studies in 1978 and have been playing or studying ever since. Until my departure for Northwestern University's School of Music in 1991, the piano remained my primary instrument under the tutelage of Norma Burrows. Throughout my career I have continued to develop my keyboard skills with studies on the organ. My teachers have been Marcus St. Julien at The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and Ina Berkey in the Washington, D.C. area. I first held a Director of Music position at a church in Evanston, Illinois, and then spent time as a church organist/pianist substitute in Houston, before moving to the Washington D.C. area, where I regularly performed solos at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. My keyboard skills have even been utilized by the National Repertory Orchestra and "The President's Own" United States Marine Band of Washington, D.C., where I served for four years as a percussionist.
