BIOGRAPHY Masha Dubravin, daughter of
well-known and accomplished Russian composer
Yakov Dubravin, was born in St. Petersburg,
Russia. She began to study piano at the age
of five and at seven was accepted to the St.
Petersburg State Music School for Gifted
Children. Masha moved to the United States
in 1991 upon receiving a full four-year
scholarship to UCLA, where she earned her
Bachelor of Arts degree. Among her teachers
were Vitaly Margulis, Arkady Aronov, and
Ick-Choo Moon, and she has played in the
master classes and been coached by Vladimir
Viardo, Sergio Rodriguez, and Awadagin
Pratt.
During her tenure at UCLA, Mrs. Dubravin
won the Atwater and the Benno Rubinyi Piano
Competitions. Masha has received an advanced
degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
Mrs. Dubravin has given solo recitals in
St. Petersburg, Russia and New York City.
Among her many professional engagements,
Masha has performed with the Kharkov
Philharmonic Orchestra, Ukraine; she
contributed to a televised benefit in Moscow
dedicated to the children of Chernobyl; and
she gave a solo concert at the International
Music Camp "Matan" in Jerusalem.
Masha has been an accompanist for the
Voice and String Faculties at the University
of California in Los Angeles and at the
Manhattan School of Music. Her diverse
accompanying experience ranges from working
on the Juilliard School production of
Gioacchino Rossini's opera Il
Signor Bruschino to
performances with choirs. One such
engagement was her appearance with the St.
Petersburg Conservatory Choir under the
baton of Professor Donn Weiss at the St.
Petersburg Great Concert Hall of the
Philharmonic Society. Masha was featured as
a member of the musical ensemble for the Off
Broadway production of Chekhov's
Ivanov.
Mrs. Dubravin currently serves as the
Organist and Choir Director for Castleton
Hill Moravian Church in Staten Island, New
York.
