Piano and Flute Lessons:
I'm passionate about music and I want to help my students attain their goals and musical aspirations. Whether you are a beginning student wanting to learn how to play the piano or flute or a student preparing for school band, I can help you. I specialize in beginning and intermediate piano and flute lessons. It's my desire to see all my students excel in their piano playing abilities and to ³develop the music within them, using either the piano or the flute as a tool to mine out their talent, to carry as a beautiful gift throughout their entire life, regardless what career they may choose.

Educational Background and Experience:
I absolutely love music! I graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Music degree (with a piano pedagogy emphasis) from the University of Texas at Arlington. I've had some masters level training at BSU in piano pedagogy. I've taught private lessons for over 20 years, and  I've been involved in contemporary church music as a lead pianist/musician for over 20 years. That experience has included lots of piano playing, vocal accompanying and arranging, flute, and working with instrumental teams of various levels (beginners to advanced). I also am a songwriter and have written and recorded three original CDs. I am currently the music director at GraceChapel.com in Boise, Idaho. I love working with all ages but I specialize in beginning and intermediate aged students.

Here's What Happens In a Piano Lesson:
Piano lessons include working through a lesson method book on the students level, working on a solo piece and instruction in piano theory on the students level. The lesson books provide a variety of styles and moods in playing the piano. Improvisation is integrated throughout the book too. I always try to challenge the students without overwhelming them and the lesson books are formatted in such a way that leaves plenty of room for an individual approach to each student. I also encourage the parents/ students to bring in any kind of music that the student is interested in learning or to let me know if they have a special interest and I will recommend a piece of music in that category and help them learn it. At the end of the lesson we quickly review what was learned that day and answer any questions they may have. There will be seating provided for parents and students while waiting for their lessons. You might want to encourage your children to bring a good book to read or something they can do while they wait quietly for their lesson

Learning to Play Contemporary Worship Piano
I also offer how to play the piano on a contemporary worship band/team. The student needs to have completed certain fundamentals in order to be able to learn the concepts they need for this style of playing. If you are interested in studying piano in this area or have a child that is interested, we can set up a plan that works for you to accomplish this goal.
