Background:

I grew-up in a musical family. My father was a musician who was well-known in the Boston area at the time. He was a composer, violinist, pianist, arranger, and teacher. He taught me violin, piano, harmony and theory at an early age. Because he was a musician and was actively involved in the Boston area, there were many opportunities provided, which enabled me to perform as a piano soloist, piano accompanist, and vocalist. My mother and sisters were all taught music by my father. As far as I can remember, I wanted to teach music.

Education:

I graduated from Lowell State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While there, I majored in music education/performance. I student taught in the Lexington, Billerica, Concord, Carlisle, and Acton school systems. I continued my education at the University of Mass Lowell with a concentration in administration and supervision. In addition, I took additional courses and seminars in drama, performance and music education.

Career:

I began teaching music privately while in high school and throughout the years, have continued to teach piano to students of all ages and all levels in addition to teaching accompanying, sight-reading, voice, harmony, theory, and composition. In addition to teaching music privately, I taught general music in the Waltham Public School System and then went on to teach at the Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Newton, MA (where I taught general music), Rosary Academy in Watertown, MA (where I taught general music, wrote, produced, directed, and choreographed musicals and special programs and composed and arranged various works for performance), Saint Patrick's School in Stoneham, MA (where I taught general music and wrote, produced and directed special programs), Saint Jude School in Waltham, MA (where I taught General music, wrote, produced, directed, and choreographed musicals and special programs and composed and arranged various works for performance), and Mount Alvernia Academy, Newton, MA (where I taught general music, chorus, wrote original dramas, librettos, and compositions and produced, directed, and choreographed musicals and special programs. In addition, I established an instrumental program, composed and arranged various works, and accompanied services.

Additional Info:

Throughout the years, I have performed as a piano and vocal soloist and piano accompanist. I also served as an accompanist with members of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra performing an original musical by my father, Dominic DeGrazia. I also performed with my husband (a percussionist), in a band where we played at various venues for special functions.

Currently:

I teach at my private music studio to students of all ages and all levels and am actively involved in my nonprofit international organization, the Association of Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders, Inc. (AGMD).
