Mark Paulson began his music studies when he was
five years old. From 1978-1979, Mr. Paulson studied
church music at Crown College in Minnesota. He
received an Associate of Religious Arts degree from
Northeastern Bible College and a degree in Piano
Performance from Montclair State University. He has
performed popular and sacred music as an entertainer
and as a church musician for over 30 years. He is an
adjudicator for The National Piano Guild.
Mr. Paulson's best ability in music is to teach
piano. One of his many teachers was Eleanor Statmore
who studied with Rosina Lhevinne at Julliard. Mrs.
Statmore was a wonderful pedagogy teacher as well as
a piano instructor. Mr. Paulson has also studied
with Miss Ruth Slatum, Mrs. Rhoda Nelson, Dr. Paul
Satre, Dr. Ruth Rendelman and Mr. Edmund Battersby.
Mr. Paulson has taught piano since 1979. He teaches
primarily in his student's homes in Glen Ridge and
Montclair, New Jersey. He teaches adults and
children at every level. Some of his students are
just beginning while others are performing very
advanced repertoire.
Mark believes that starting too soon can be
difficult for young children and can also cause them
to lose interest. Mr. Paulson recommends that
children have a desire to study music and are able
to easily read words before they begin lessons. It
is in the best interest of most students to wait
until they are at least seven or eight years old
before they begin to take private piano lessons. If
they start too early, they will usually quit and
never study the piano again.
Each student that studies with Mr. Paulson is taught
differently according to their own interests and
needs. Students have a desire to study with Mark for
many years because of the way that he teaches. His
approach has made him a very popular teacher.
It has been Mr. Paulson's desire to do whatever he
can do to help students and teachers develop their
piano performance and teaching skills. If he can
help you, please contact him.
