Azores, Portugal. Mrs. Calhoun left teaching in 1979 to work for
the IBM Corporation. Upon retirement from IBM she opened a
studio in Bella Vista, Arkansas. She has over 15 years
experience teaching private lessons.
The philosophy of Mrs. Calhoun is to educate and instill a love
of music to last a lifetime. She uses many different method
books chosen to suit the student. Additionally she teaches
theory, ear training, and keyboard skills (technique). She
supplements the method books with music of importance to the
student. In her studio her students use the computer for theory
education as well as writing music. She uses midi disks as
accompaniments as available.
Her studio has students of all ages from 5 to 65+. Her students
attend a weekly private lesson as well as frequent group
lessons. The group lessons include performance training, music
history and games to enhance the learning process.
