I believe learning piano should be both challenging and enjoyable. To that end, I work to adapt my teaching to each student's interest and personality. Through a variety of methods and repertoire, I aim to establish an appropriate pace of growth and development that will enable steady progress, with consistent and successfully met challenges, and to achieve excellence in performance. My students consistently achieve a Superior rating in the National Guild Auditions and many have won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the CCMTA & HMTA Piano Competitions.

My musical history began as pre-schooler listening to my dad and his family gathered around the piano singing American folk songs and Christmas carols. I began piano lessons at 7 and continued learning and growing both in lessons and in my own improvisational explorations. While working on my Bachelor's degree in music composition at the University of Houston, I began accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists. During that time and while later working towards a Masters degree in music theory, I worked as a rehearsal and orchestral pianist for opera productions by the UH Opera Theater and Opera Rediviva, class accompanist for Houston Ballet Academy, staff accompanist for Lee College in Baytown, choral accompanist for San Jacinto College North, and as a recital accompanist for numerous vocal and instrumental recitals, including the Houston premier of Variations for Flute & Piano by Robert Beaser with flutist Ema Armenious. In 1993, while in graduate school, I began teaching piano, as well. Upon completing my M.M. in 1995, I became Music Director for the HITS theater school in the Houston Heights where, for class shows, I taught children theater songs, coached them on their performances, arranged standard broadway musicals for synthesizers and performed as the "orchestra;" and for company shows at Miller Outdoor Theater, I prepared the chorus, coached actors on their singing roles, and prepared and conducted the orchestra in performances. After two years, I decided teaching piano was more important to me and dedicated myself full time to that occupation. I continued to be active as an accompanist and as Associate Music Director for HITS, but teaching piano was my main focus. Currently, in addition to teaching piano, I accompany and teach at the North Harris campus of Lonestar College, and am working to develop myself as a jazz pianist.

I am an active member of MTNA, TMTA, CCMTA and the American College of Musicians (National Piano Guild), and am a past member of HMTA. I have served as Vice President & Recording Secretary of HMTA, and have chaired the HMTA Piano Contest and HMTA Jazz-Pop Festivals, and am currently chairing the newly created CCMTA Piano Duo Festival.
