I taught piano at West Music from February 1997 through May
2004. My studio is now located at 1570 1st Ave. in Iowa City.
Students range in age from 5 to 60 years of age. Many of my
students are in their first two years of study but some have as
much as 10 years of playing experience. I teach all levels of
both classical and blues/jazz and enjoy teaching a broad range
of musical styles. I believe it is important for students to be
able to play not only classical but pop and/or jazz. I tailor my
instruction to the student’s musical interests. My lessons are
structured but are casual.
I have a degree in piano performance from Indiana University. I
have been performing locally in Iowa City for several years. I
was a pianist/organist at St. Wenceslaus Church from Jan. 1993
to August 1996. I was a pianist at Von Maur from March 1996
until September 1999. My training was primarily in classical
music but in 1994-95, I studied jazz with Dan Knight who has
performed jazz worldwide.
I belong to the Iowa City Independent Piano Teachers (ICIPT)
group as well as the Iowa Music Teachers Association (IMTA). My
students have the opportunity to perform in four recitals each
year as well as the ICIPT piano festival and IMTA’s festival and
contest.
