The following is his bio:
James Behr is a brilliant pianist and composer. A Juilliard graduate, he
was a featured artist in hundreds of concerts throughout the U.S. and
has appeared on radio and TV, with The Virginia Symphony and The Florida
Symphonic Pops (as artist in residence), at Lincoln Center’s Alice
Tully Hall, and at the Ravinia and Chautauqua music festivals.
Behr’s music reflects his dynamic background in the Broadway, pop,
and
classical genres. His original songs, piano and orchestral works --
including Fantasy, Kaleidoscope, and his three musicals -- introduce a
fresh new style of jazz, rock, classical and blue-age fusion that is
compelling and exciting. His recent CD release, Suite Memoirs, features
11 melodic, autobiographical piano works he wrote dating from college
years at Juilliard to the present. His musicals, The Count of Monte
Cristo and Reverie, are on their way to production. As a concert
pianist, he offers a fresh approach to the classical scene: he speaks to
his audiences and performs his own works. With eloquence and wit, he
draws upon his artistry and insights as a composer, making his concerts
dazzling! He has also released a CD featuring classical favorites.
Behr received commissions from Meet The Composer and several
orchestras. He was a member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop and has
worked as a musical director and conductor. He received his M.M. and B.M.
degrees from The Juilliard School, where he studied with the eminent
concert pianists Nadia Reisenberg and Oxana Yablanskaya. Behr also holds
a J.D. from City University of New York and a B.A. from Northwestern
University. He received scholarship awards from Juilliard and The
Chautauqua Music Festival, and is a prize-winner in eight piano
competitions. Behr is on the music/theater faculty of Pace University
