I taught at Rockley Music for 25 years,
although I now teach from my home studio. I
currently include 20 piano teachers among my
students and I know most of the other local
piano teachers. I would be glad to talk with
you about your piano lesson needs and give
you suggestions for the best teacher to meet
your needs. Call me at 303-232-2302.
Our students learn to play music in any style they
are interested in including:
- Classical
- Jazz
- Pop
- Sacred
- Ragtime
- Broadway showtunes
- New Age
Our students learn to improvise and play from a lead
sheet or fake book which allows them to add their
own creativity to the music. All our students learn
to read written music, as well as to improvise, and
play by ear.
We have written and published more than 20 books of
music and music instruction that are used not only
by our students but by many other piano teachers
across the country.
Since each of our students comes from a different
musical background, we tailor the lessons
specifically to the needs of each individual
student. Some of our students have come to us as
senior citizens who have never touched the piano,
while others had lessons as children and want to
come back. Some have played off and on all their
lives, and simply want to get better, or perhaps to
be able to play with their church or choir. Whatever
the student's goals are, we work with them to
achieve them. And along the way have a LOT of fun.
Levels: Beginner to Professional
Ages: Teen to Adult
Keyboard students are welcome!!

Performing Experience:
U.S. Navy Band, Pearl Harbor Hawaii – For most of my
3 years in Hawaii I played jazz piano, often working
two or three jobs at once. Dinner music at the
Officer’s Club, jazz at one of the downtown hotels,
and later more jazz at an after hours club.
Featured Soloist with Lakewood Symphony Orchestra,
Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, and Haverford Bryn-Mawr
Symphony Orchestra.
I moved to Denver in 1970 and immediately started
playing piano in local nightclubs and hotels all
over town. My best job was 5 years at the Red Vest
Inn in Lakewood, Colorado (1971-1975). My band
(Howard and Co.) and I played all over Colorado,
Wyoming, and Nebraska. We averaged 400 gigs a year
for 25 years, but I always kept playing a few solo
piano jobs on the side. It was normal for me to do a
recording session in the morning, play cocktail hour
at the downtown Hilton Hotel, and go play with the
band at the nightclub that evening. We played jazz
at the Red Vest Inn, Rock and Roll at the East Side
Story, and Country Western at the Trail Dust.
Educational Background:
