David
Servias has been active as a piano teacher for the
past sixteen years, giving lessons to children and
adults of all ages. He has worked with beginners as
well as advanced students. Many of David's piano
students have been accepted as music majors in
reputable music departments in the Northwest. Other
students have won awards in regional piano
competitions. Many play for their school music
programs, churches, and community events. David has appeared throughout the Northwest as a
soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. He was an
Idaho state winner in the collegiate MTNA
competition and has appeared as a soloist with the
Washington-Idaho Symphony and the Washington State
University Symphony. David has performed solo
recitals throughout the states of Washington and
Idaho. Well-regarded as an accompanist and chamber
musician, David served as a staff accompanist at the
prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan for
several summers. He has appeared in music
departments throughout Washington State—
accompanying recitals, juries, lessons, auditions
and master classes. Also at home playing jazz and
popular music, David has played in church groups,
jazz combos and big bands and has performed in
restaurants, night clubs and on cruise ships. His
primary teachers have included Robin McCabe, Gerald
Berthiaume, Jay Mauchley, Thomas Lymmenstull, Preta
Laughlin, Bonalyn Bricker-Smith and Margie May Ott.
David has also coached with John Pickett, Susan
Chan, Björn Edjemo, Ortwin Stürmer and Eva Engström.
David has studied jazz piano with Charles
Argersinger and Marc Seales.
Teaching has always been an important part of
David's professional work. In addition to private
teaching, David will begin teaching group piano at
Oregon State University this fall. Previously at
Saint Martin's University David taught piano, ear
training and music theory, and most recently he
served as the coordinator of the secondary piano
program at the University of Washington. Before
coming to Oregon, David maintained a thriving
private studio in Seattle. David holds a master's
degree in piano performance from Washington State
University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at
the University of Washington.
David now lives in Eugene with his wife, who is
also a pianist, where they teach music and work as
freelance musicians.
