Catherine Forbush was born in Taiwan in
1978. She began her piano studies at the age of five, and at the
age of ten, began studies with Erika Chary. She gave her first
full-length recital at the age of 13, and in the same year, made
her debut as orchestral soloist. Her awards include winning the
Kawai Grand Prize at the 25th International Young Artists
Peninsula Music Festival, 1st place in the MTAC Statewide Solo
Competition, 1st place in the Bellflower Young Artist
Competition, 1st place in the MTAC Scholarship Competition,
multiple 1st places in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival,
1st place in the "Artists of the Future" competition, 1st place
in the Southern California Bach Festival, and many other honors.
She has performed as soloist with the Los Angeles Chamber
Orchestra, Bellflower Symphony, and Beach Cities Symphony. She
was an invited guest performer at the Jascha Heifetz Society's
100th Birthday Gala Celebration Concert and has performed with
the Michael Skidgel Singers at the Crystal Cathedral. Catherine
has also performed in masterclasses for world-renowned artists
such as Menahem Pressler, Yo-yo Ma, Hiroko Nakamura, Igor Lavrov,
Martin Katz, Emile Naoumoff, Edna Golandsky, Walter Ponce, and
Leonid Levitsky. She was the recipient of the full-tuition
Marjorie and Robert Rawlins scholarship at the University of
California, Irvine, where she studied with Nina Scolnik. Her
other teachers/coaches include Thomas Otten and Rosemary Hyler.
She also received the Artsbridge Scholarship for her work with
children in inner-city schools. Catherine is currently active as
teacher and accompanist in Southern Orange County.
