Hello, my name is Bonnie Kotzer and I have 17 year experience teaching music to children and adults. I give keyboard and piano lessons in Lakewood Colorado, where my studio is located. I teach music to all levels and abilities of students. Perhaps you have a little child who wants to learn "Twinkle Twinkle" on their keyboard. Or maybe you are an adult who played piano through high school and wants to resume music lessons as an adult. I also teach music to many adults who are starting as total beginners.

My students are all encouraged to have fluent sight-reading skills, basic improvisational skills, and the ability to easily learn the type of music they want, whether they are playing "just for fun", or preparing for an audition into a university level music school.

Many of my students accompany their school or church choir, play in their school orchestra, or play in their school’s jazz band.

Many of the styles of music my students often learn include:

  • Popular Piano
  • Classical Piano
  • Jazz Piano
  • Christian Piano
  • Piano Improvisation
  • Piano Composition

Levels: Beginner to Advanced.

Ages: children and adults

Testimonials:

"We have recently asked Ms. Kotzer to teach piano to three of our other children ages six, nine, and eleven, because we were so impressed with her teaching ability with our daughter Catriona."

"It was truly my great fortune to have located Bonnie Kotzer when I began searching for a piano instructor. Her skillful and enthusiastic instruction make learning interesting."
- Patti 303-237-9399

"Bonnie's approach to teaching piano is smart and sensitive. Most telling is when my daughter plays at home - just for the fun of it!"

Performing Experience: I played piano and keyboard professionally in the metro Denver area, both as a soloist and a member of the bands "Arabesque" and "Howard and Company". I was very busy, playing about 100 gigs a year.

I played music for all sorts of engagements including weddings, anniversaries, fund-raisers, corporate functions, birthdays, reunions and Christmas parties.

My experiences as a performer taught me a lot about different kinds of music, and a lot about different kinds of people. I am able to incorporate these skills into teaching my piano lessons.

Educational Background:

  • University of Colorado, Boulder Colorado
  • University of Washington, Seattle Washington
  • graduated cum laude majoring in music

My teachers included members of the Seattle Symphony, members of the Denver Symphony, graduates of the Moscow Conservatory of Music, and a number of different college professors.

Equipment:

I have a Steinway grand piano and a Yamaha keyboard at my studio. Students may pick whichever instrument they are most comfortable playing with. One of the funnest things to do in my teaching is to play music together with my students, with me on keyboard and the student on the piano.
