EDUCATION:
Professional Studies Certificate, Piano Performance,
Manhattan School of Music
Master of Music, Piano Performance, California State
University, Long Beach
TEACHING AND PERFORMING:
Located in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long
Beach, Calif., piano teacher Bruce Russell offers
private lessons to students of all ages and levels.
In Bruce's studio, students play on a Steinway Model
A (6'4") which was recently rebuilt. Originally
built in 1918, this tremendous instrument has been
in his family since it was purchased by his
great-grandfather in that year.
In addition to teaching in his private studio, Mr.
Russell has been on the piano faculty at Cerritos
College for several years. At the College, he
teaches private students as well as classes of 15-20
students. Bruce is actively involved in the Music
Teachers' Association of California, providing
students with the benefits of the programs available
through the Association, which include Certificate
of Merit and many other performance opportunities.
One of the most beneficial aspects of studying with
Bruce is that he is an active performer, allowing
him to be very aware of the issues that students
face. Most recently, he has performed in benefit
concerts given by the Long Beach MTAC, and in
faculty concerts at the College.
Mr. Russell is primarily a classical pianist but he
loves exploring all genres. In fact, he has worked
as a pianist in Hollywood musicals. He is a very
genial person and is fun to work with. His students
have offered the following praise: "Great teacher.
So helpful and respectful. I will definitely
recommend him to my friends" and "Excellent teacher.
Always stresses technique necessary for the piano."
