Education/Experience
I currently serve on the Music faculty of
Florida College (since
Fall 2006), where I teach Music Theory,
History, Technology, Class Piano, and
Applied piano. I have a Bachelor of Music
degree in Piano Performance (1999) from
University of South Florida, and a Master of
Music degree from The Boston Conservatory
(2001). Other professional experiences
include a 6-week tour with the Nashville
Opera Educational Outreach program in 2005
and chamber music collaboration with
vocalists and instrumentalists in the Tampa
Bay area, plus regular recital performances
at Florida College.
More importantly than all these
experiences, however, is my current training
in the Taubman approach to piano technique
with Mr. Robert Durso, Senior Director of
the
Golandsky Institute. I began studying
with Mr. Durso in August 2010, after
attending the Golandsky Summer Symposium at
Princeton University in July. The Taubman
technique is the most comprehensive body of
knowledge in existence to explain and teach
the coordinated movements that comprise a
pain-, and fatigue-free virtuosic technique.
It is scientific in its methodology, and the
Golandsky Institute is the sole proprietor
of the complete body of knowledge. In one
year, I have already experienced a gigantic
turnaround in my own playing. I am not a
certified Taubman teacher with the Golandsky
Institute, but I would be happy to introduce
and guide any student through this work to
the best of my ability (intermediate to
advanced students only). To my
knowledge, there are no other students of
this work through the Golandsky Institute
within a 100-mile radius of Tampa.
Lessons
I began teaching piano when I joined the
faculty of Florida College in Fall 2006, and
began my own private studio in Spring 2009.
I teach all levels, beginning through
advanced. My goal is to help each student
achieve his/her musical goals. I try to find
music that inspires, make each lesson
substantive and enjoyable, and provide
enriching experiences for each student. I
believe music is a gift of expression from
God for which there is no alternative, and
so I feel blessed to have acquired knowledge
and skills to assist others in cultivating
this unique language.
All lessons are held in my office on the
Florida College campus in Temple Terrace. I
can also offer training in Music Theory,
History, and Finale and Sibelius music
notation software as well. I will work out
the details with individuals on a case by
case basis.
