ALBERT ALAN OWEN, Prof.Cert.Ram; A.R.C.M.(Piano Performers)
Teacher of Piano, Composition, Harmony, Counterpoint and Music Theory.
Albert Alan Owen was a student at The Royal Academy of Music (London). His professors were Patrick Savill (composition), Betty Mills (flute), Arthur Jacobs (philosophy and the art of criticism) and Richard Stoker (tutor). At the RAM Albert was The Charles Lucas Medallist in 1974, and in the same year, was awarded The Lady Holland Prize for composition.
He studied composition in Paris with the legendary teacher Mlle. Nadia Boulanger for two years full time and then periodically up to her death in 1979.
His piano teachers were Harold Craxton (three years), Angus Morrison (two years) and, in Paris, Jacques Fevrier (two years).
Albert was "Highly Commended" at The Royal Overseas League Music Competition in 1974 and in the same year was a finalist in The National Piano Concerto Competition.
After completing his studies, although Albert has performed extensively as a pianist and accompanist, his professional career has been equally divided between Composition/Recording and Teaching.
For the last 25 years Albert has been a successful and influential teacher and pedagogue. Many of his pupils have gone on to achieve distinction as professional musicians in all genres (classical, pop etc.). Numerous pupils have also been successful in local, national and international competitions. Most recently one of his pupils won the solo piano section at The 1998 Urdd National Eisteddfod in Wales.
One, particularly notable, aspect of his teaching is his non-sectarian approach to music. He has always encouraged individuality in his pupils, demanding only rigour and hard work.
